Lacrima Di Morro D'Alba (DOC)

Lacrima Di Morro D’Alba is a quality DOC red wine that is produced with 100% Lacrima grape, a higher percentage than the 85% requested for DOC Status. Lacrima is a rare and ancient varietal indigenous to Le Marche, Italy, produced only within a small and controlled area of wine regione. Its name (Italian for ‘Tear’), is believed to have derived from how the berries emit small drops of their nectar when fully ripened.

Based in Morro D’Alba our winery is the oldest established wine cellar to produce Lacrima di Morro D’Alba that is still in existence today, with prior knowledge since before first bottling the varietal in 1971. Lacrima di Morro D'Alba went on to be recognised as a DOC wine in 1985.

Characteristics

Grape Variety – 100% Lacrima di Morro D'Alba Grape

Colour – Intense ruby red with violet reflections

Bouquet – Pleasantly aromatic and natural bouquet combining a delightful essence of fruits of the forest with detectable floral notes that are harmonious with its flavours.

Taste – A wonderfully characteristic dry red wine offering a beautiful base of wild cherry, strawberries and blackberries with subtle hints of blueberry and infused with a finely balanced blend of violet and undertones of rose petal. Creates an enchanting palate with well balanced acidity and a firm but soft tannis.

Wine Pairing

Lacrima Di Morro D’Alba offers an amazing pairing with porchetta, grilled sausage as well as braised beef. The varietal also compliments mushroom and sauces with a tomato base. Lacrima is also one of the few wines’ that is very well suited for use with Asparagus. Below is a list of principle dishes we recommend accompanying this wine:

- Grilled Lamb with Tomato base sauce and rocket leaf garnish
- Porchetta infused with fennel and rosemary on a pea and bacon sauce and salad leaf garnish
- Braised Beef with mushroom
- Cured Meat Platter
